Rainy Day Comfort Food: Suman sa Lihiya and Hot Chocolate

A good friend from Calapan came over this week to Manila and gave us a bag of Suman sa Lihiya among other pasalubong.

The rain seems to be unstoppable due to Typhoon Ferdie and at times like this, don't we just want to lie down and snuggle in bed? The only reasons for getting up is when you need to go to the bathroom and when your mind is asking for something to eat. We found the best rainy day comfort food right there sitting on top of our dining table, Suman sa Lihiya! All we need is some hot chocolate or in tagalog, tsokolate eh, to complete the meal.

Heat up a cup of fresh milk in the stove, remove just before it boils and stir in your favorite chocolate mix. I had Carnation, hubby had Swiss Miss with Marshmallows. We added a teaspoon of Fry's cocoa powder to our respective mugs to make the chocolate taste more potent. Unwrap the banana leaves and dump the suman into the mug. Heavenly!
