Tribute to Sec. Jesse Robredo - Danggit

Just like my tribute to Mang Dolphy, I'm dedicating this post to honor one of the very few dedicated yet low-profile public servant in the the Philippines, Sec. Jesse Robredo.

Acting Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo had Danggit for breakfast on the day of his plane crash tragedy, that is, according to Senator Loren Legarda who happened to host a special breakfast meeting in her Makati abode to talk about the confirmation of Robredo in the CA.

The breakfast was attended by Robredo and 5 other NPC congressmen. During the meeting, Robredo was said to be quite reserved and quiet except that he showed delight in the "Danggit" served with Paksiw na Bangus, longanisa and rice plus lots of onions and tomatoes as side dish.

There's a little spooky or odd about this anecdote. In the middle of their meal, Sec. Jesse asked Legarda from where she sourced the "Dangit" and the latter answered, "In Masbate". Masbate happened to be the place where Robredo's plane would crash later in the afternoon of the same day while attempting an emergency landing.

Masbate is not known for Danggit as we most often associate this delicacy with Cebu. But for whatever this tale meant, we'd like to believe that Sec. Jesse has lived a life of purpose.

Rest in Peace Sir, may your legacy of good governance live on!
